Showing Your Skills With Gourmet Cooking

Foods products you can use for gourmet cooking at home can include crab, caviar, sea bass, marlin, clams, swordfish, filet mignon, rack of lamb, venison, Cornish hen, vanilla beans, extra virgin olive oil, porcini mushrooms and shiitaki fungi.

Grocery stores, specialty meat shops, fish stores and green food chains should stock most of these food products. You should also include freshly picked herbs from your garden, to improve the flavour of your meals.

You do not need to spend two hours in the kitchen cooking these meals, as many gourmet meals can be prepared at home in about 30 minutes.

You may not need expensive cookware but you should use good quality cookware. Cooking with cast iron skillets are a better option than non-stick frying pans. The coating on non-stick frying pans is not good for your health.

Avoid aluminum pots and pans (unless they are anodized) as the metal can leach into food and is therefore a potential health hazard. If you wish to avoid cast iron pots, you can use stainless steel pots and pans with a copper bottom as an alternative.

In your kitchen, you should also gather cooking tools and gadgets that can be found in discount stores, like cooking thermometers and timers.
