Balancing Your Diet With Fruit And Vegetable Ideas

Fruit and vegetable are essential food ingredients for a balanced diet. You can grow your own fruit and vegetables in your garden, to pick fresh off the branch produce and eaten on the same day.

If you need some herbs for your cooking, you can run outside to your garden and pick some fresh herbs and use them in your cooking on the same day.

Once you start using fresh produce from your garden, you will realise all the natural flavours you have been missing. A tomato fresh from the plant, tastes so much better than one bought from the store that was picked days, weeks or even months ago.

Much of the produce you buy from the food store may have been refrigerated for long periods and waiting for the demand to pick up, losing all the natural flavours in the meantime. This is often the reason why tomatoes, apples and other produce bought from a food store are often rather tasteless and without natural flavours

By growing your own herbs, fruit and vegetable you will enjoy more natural flavours and better tasting food, especially when you use them fresh from your garden and eaten on the same day.

When considering food, you also need to consider dietary needs and food allergies. There may be one or two diabetics in your family and you need to be careful how you make food that will be enjoyable but without a high sugar content.

For example, there may be a birthday party coming up and you need to arrange for a cake suitable for a diabetic. Many cake shops these days, make cakes that are without sugar, or with an extremely low sugar content. The cake will taste just as delicious, but without the high sugar content.

Having a member of the family, with special dietary needs, is an often difficult process to manage, but once you develop a pattern and know which food ingredients will not adversely affect their health, then you will know the perfect choice of ingredients when cooking meals.

After all, many dietitians recommend that diabetics eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables.

Fresh Strawberries For A Strawberry Shortcake

Strawberry shortcake is a delicious dessert, given after a main meal. There are not many excuses to give out something so delicious, as something that includes fresh strawberries, especially when strawberries are in season. I slice my strawberries, from my own organic garden, freshly picked on the day of cooking.

When my strawberry patch is full of strawberries, there are not many excuses I need to find, to make a number of delicious desserts with strawberries. If strawberries are out, then I use strawberry syrup, which is always available at my favourite gourmet food store.

When the time comes for a family celebration like a birthday or a graduation, we always like to offer a dessert of strawberry shortcake, after the main meal. We also make a second smaller cake and offer the low calorie version to satisfy those on a low calorie diet. Quiet often, both cakes are eaten rather quickly and none is left over for the next day, especially when we have invited guests.

As long as you use the main ingredients of light cake, strawberries and whipped cream, there should be no limits on additional ingredients to make strawberry shortcake.

Surprise Your Special Friends With Fruit Baskets

Fruit baskets can include a wide variety of fruit, from seasonal fruit to exotic fruit. You can customize the fruit basket to include favorite fruit. If you are looking to arrange a fruit basket as a gift for a friend, you may need to find out their choice of fruit.

Once you know their favorite fruit, you can arrange for a fruit basket to be created to include their favored fruit choices. For example, if your friend likes oranges, cherries and strawberries, then you can find out which of these are in season and then order them to be in the fruit basket. If all three are available, then you may arrange for all three to be in the gift basket.

Your aim is to surprise your friend, with a basket of her favorite fruit. A bigger surprise may be if you include some of the fruit you grow in your garden. You may have an orange tree, with delicious, juicy oranges and even a strawberry patch in your garden. You can include these in your fruit baskets.

Many of these fruit baskets can be bought online with your choice of fruit. You can also go to a local gourmet food store and arrange for the creation of a fruit basket. You may want to give something different for an upcoming special day for a friend.

You may be looking to give your sweetheart a gift with a difference. Rather than the usual jewellery and flowers you may give her something unexpected, like a gourmet fruit basket with her favorite fruit, all in the one basket. Before you purchase the gift basket, find out her favorite fruit.

You may ask her directly about her favorite fruit choices, without telling her it is for a gift, to maintain the element of surprise. When the day comes, you can present her with a fruit basket with her favorite fruit.

Food Packaging And All That Goes To Waste

Food packaging is on so many food products these days. You go to the grocery store and almost everything is covered in plastic or in tins. You cannot buy just one grocery item, you have to buy three of the same food product wrapped in plastic food packaging. This is the reason the garbage bin fills up so quickly, with all the food packaging taking up so much space as garbage.

Some of the supermarkets have finally started to shift towards displaying some products without food packaging, especially the fruit and vegetables. So you can pick a number of fruit and place them in a paper bag and bring them home.

I have now ceased buying fruit and vegetables from the grocery store, as I have expanded my garden to include more organic fruit and vegetables. I have also planted miniature fruit trees all around the yard to fulfil the family needs for fruit.

So now if we need some lemons, we go to the lemon tree and pick them fresh off the branch. If we need some tomatoes to make a sauce, then we go and pick the tomatoes from our tomato plants in our garden. No need for a plastic sauce bottle, or plastic bags to carry the tomatoes from the store.

Fruit Cake Is Best With Fresh Ingredients

Fruit cake can be a delicious cake depending on the ingredients. If the cake includes fresh fruit with a little flavour by adding brandy, coffee or cream, then you have a delicious fruit cake.

The secret to your success is fresh fruit. I pick my own fruit from my miniature fruit trees. I know if I pick my own fruit, they are fresh. If I buy fruit from the food store, I do not know how many days, weeks or months they have been in refrigerated storage, or in transit to the store. Losing a lot of their natural flavours in the meantime.

I did not realise how good fruit tasted until I planted my own miniature fruit trees in the backyard and started eating fresh fruit off the branch. I suddenly realised there was a natural taste and a delicious flavour when the fruit are fresh, off the branch.

This is why I now use fresh fruit in my fruit cakes.
