Regional Variations With Mexican Cuisine

Mexican cuisine is known for its diversity and colorful presentation. Many of the ingredients are indigenous to Mexico. The dishes combines indigenous foods of Mexico with those imported by the conquistadors.

The food of pre-Columbian Mexico include chocolate, corn, vanilla, avocado and papaya. The conquistadors introduced onions, rice, beef, and pork. Mexico’s past is still evident in the food eaten by the people.

The exotic dishes from Aztec and Mayan traditions are still cooked in villages in Mexico. Some of these dishes include rattlesnake, grasshopper, ant eggs and iguana. Due to its historical origins, Mexican cooking is a mix of several cuisines, including South America, Caribbean French and African.

Many of the common ingredients in Mexican cuisine are corn, chills, and black beans. But, there are regional variations highlighted by local climate and geography of local regions of Mexico. Some of these regional variations, were also influenced by the Spaniards.
